Flora & Fauna

The vast amount of animals, big cats, the wildebeest migration, and the African savanna grasslands is the reason why everyone comes to the Maasai Mara.

This mind blowing national reserve in Kenya is home to a wide variety of animals as well as home to the Big Five and the world famous Big Cat Diary.

The Great Migration is one of the most impressive natural events worldwide, involving an immensity of herbivores: some 1,300,000 wildebeest, 360,000 Thomson’s gazelle, and 191,000 zebra make up this great spectacle, besides that all members of the “Big Five” are found in the Maasai Mara and make game viewing a mind blowing experience. For the bird lovers there are over 450 species that have been identified in the Maasai Mara Ecosystem.

The MAMMAL section has kindly been put together by Phil West of Phil West Safaris Ltd. who is one of Kenya’s most professional safari guides and a walking encyclopaedia! Thanks Phil.

The BIRD section is currently being updated. We are working with Adam Scott Kennedy, who is doing a book on the Maasai Mara BIRDS. There is description under this section yet.

The TREES & SHRUBS section is coming soon.
