Cheetah Conservation

cheetah conservation project- masai mara

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in the Basecamp Cheetah Project, which is working hard to conserve this endangered animal, and the biodiversity of the Maasai Mara.
We have now in place a functioning agreement between the Kenya Wildlife Service and Basecamp. This has resulted in Basecamp facilitating a trip for the KWS Maasai Mara vet Dominic Mijele to the Cheetah Conservation Fund headquarters in Namibia, and he has now developed the KWS animal immobilization protocol from what he learnt. Excellent news for the conservation community in Kenya.

Looking Ahead!

The field work should be started by mid May 2008, and will develop the individual recognition database for the Mara reserve and the surrounding community land.
This will be supported by a trip to the Serengeti Cheetah Project, where the research team will learn the latest techniques and methods.
The Project team will also visit the CCF Headquarters in Namibia, and learn firsthand how the world’s top Cheetah Conservation Organization does things, and bring all this knowledge back to the Masai Mara to help save this flagship species.
We will also be holding community and guide training sessions, to educate the people so often in contact with this remarkable animal.

Ashe Oleng! (Thank you)

Basecamp and the Talek Maasai community appreciate your support. Our concept of responsible and sustainable tourism and destination development is dependent upon it. The people, the planet, the animals, and the sustainability of the project lies in our own hands, Thank You!
