Sala's Camp

Located in an extremely private area of the renowned Maasai Mara, Sala’s Camp rests on the banks of the Sand and Keekorok rivers looking into Tanzania’s Serengeti on the opposite side. Sala’s Camp is nestled amongst an indigenous forest with views into the Northern Corridor, which is the route taken by the million wildebeest whose famous migration takes place annually. This makes Sala’s Camp the perfect spot to watch the Great Migration unfold.

Safari from Sala’s offers the classic Kenyan experience. The Maasai Mara is an area of prolific wildlife and supreme sightings. Early morning game drives are highly recommended as the animals stretch and wake up to the dawn light, and take the opportunity to hunt out their morning meal. Later on in the day, elephants lumber across the hills, and in the soft evening light the drama unfolds once more to reveal Africa’s natural rhythm.

There's nothing quite like planting juicy fresh indiginous sapplings around camp to lure in whole herds of elephant on illicit midnight feast raids. As the elephant, somewhat cheekily, pretend not to understand that we do not want them to snack on these I think it's time we added some thorn branches at each tree to protect them from fossiking pachyderm's trunks. Question is this - will a thorn branch be enough to discourage 7 tonnes of determined mammal?!

Much hilarity at Sala's yesterday afternoon as a Tanzanian Rangers vehicle from the depths of the Serengeti drove up to Sala's and stopped on the opposite bank of the Sand River. 3 Tanzanian Rhino Monitoring Rangers got out and paddled across the river to greet us. It turns out that they weren't interested in hearing the wildlife low-down from our side of the border - they merely wanted to know if we had a TV so that they could watch the Tottemham vs Liverpool match!

At midnight the Sala's Pride caught and ate their Christmas Dinner of wildebeest very slowly and very, very loudy last night just beyond Sala's Camp. They now lie in the riverine forest just outside of Camp sated, content and too full to move an inch!
